Beastie Boys
Grand Royal Magazine #3

Storytelling, Creative Content & Production

Project Overview

For the third issue of Grand Royal Magazine, I played a central role as a writer, editor, and creative coordinator, contributing to the magazine's iconic storytelling. This issue focused on the history and cultural impact of the synthesizer, blending insightful narratives with engaging visuals.

  • The primary objective of this project was to celebrate the synthesizer as a revolutionary instrument in music and culture. Through thoughtful storytelling and in-depth research, the magazine aimed to educate readers, spotlight legends in the synthesizer world, and provide a compelling, culturally resonant issue that reflected the ethos of Grand Royal and the Beastie Boys.

    • Craft engaging feature articles and interviews with notable figures in the music industry.

    • Showcase the history and evolution of the synthesizer as a mainstream instrument.

    • Commission a visually striking cover that encapsulated the creative spirit of the magazine.

    • Coordination Across Subjects: Managing interviews with high-profile figures such as Keyboard Money Mark, Walter Sear, and Brian Kehew required strategic scheduling and flexibility.

    • Synthesizing History: Distilling decades of synthesizer innovation into a compelling, accessible narrative was a significant challenge.

    • Creative Vision for the Cover: The magazine’s cover design needed to encapsulate the theme of synthesizer innovation while standing out as a unique piece of visual storytelling.

    How Challenges Were Addressed:

    • Built strong communication channels to streamline interviews and gather authentic insights.

    • Conducted extensive research, leveraging primary sources and expert interviews to craft an accurate yet engaging historical narrative.

    • Worked closely with a commissioned artist to conceptualize and execute a cover design that turned a synthesizer into a spaceship engaged in an intergalactic dogfight, visually tying the instrument to innovation and imagination.

    • Developed a strategic media mix to maximize reach and engagement, integrating paid, owned, and earned media channels.

    • Worked closely with media partners and vendors to align messaging and optimize delivery.

    • Leveraged enhanced targeting strategies on social and digital platforms to ensure key messages resonated with the right audiences.Description text goes here
